What is involved with a first time appointment? How long
does the appointment take?
When will I get the results?
A new patient appointment generally begins with a comprehensive physical exam, and a review of your pet’s medical records. Following this, Dr. Barabas will discuss your pet’s cancer and explain the options available. Please bring any supportive documentation of your pet's condition for the initial appointment including written medical records, blood tests, x-rays and medications.
The appointment generally takes one hour including initial consultation with the veterinary technician, diagnostic tests and final consultation with the doctor. If there are chemotherapy treatments involved, the appointment could span from 2-3 hours.
The results of the testing are discussed and provided in written report form prior to discharge. These findings are also faxed to your regular vet immediately upon discharge from the hospital.
What is involved with a chemotherapy appointment?
Pets are usually dropped off in the morning and stay for a few hours to receive a physical exam, bloodwork, and their chemotherapy treatment.
How do pets tolerate chemotherapy?
Pets do amazingly well on chemotherapy. Side effects are usually minimal. The type of chemotherapy administered and what to expect will be discussed at your appointment. Pets do not usually lose their hair with chemotherapy like people do. Some breeds may lose hair more than others or their hair may thin. If any hair loss occurs, it will grow back after chemotherapy is completed.
